Anniversary stay at Faithlegg House

Last month we ticked off one of our hotel wishlists and spent two nights at Faithlegg House in Waterford, which is one of the Ireland Blue Book hotels.

After a four hour drive down needless to say we were pretty hungry.  We were spoiled for choice with both the 2AA Rosette Restaurant  Roseville Rooms and the Awlward Lounge menus looking really tempting but we opted for the more relaxed atmosphere and casual food of the Awlward Lounge.

I opted for the Homemade Sausage Roll which also contained Black Pudding & Smoked Knockanore Cheddar with Homemade Tomato Chutney and Salad. It was really tasty and as you can see from the pictures the portion sizes were extremely generous for a starter. My eyes were definitely too big for my stomach and I struggled to finish my Steak Sandwich which was a shame as it tasted so nice, The steak was accompanied with onions and mushrooms all of which was covered in a beautifully rich pepper sauce. (We were most definitely on a cheat day!!)

Our room itself was pretty standard but there was some really nice little extras including a copy of the Irish Country Living Magazine and really delicious Homemade Granola bites which were replaced each morning.

As it was our anniversary there was also a lovely card and small box of Lily O’Brien chocolates, which was much appreciated.

You might have gathered by now much of our stay revolved around food so it was really nice to be able to take a stroll around the beautiful golf course that evening to try walk off some of the calories!

Considering our dinner was so nice I had high hopes for breakfast the following morning and I wasn’t disappointed.  Any of our regular followers will know I’m not a fan of carvery style breakfast and I was delighted that Faithlegg cooked their breakfast fresh which included your typical Irish breakfast but also fish of the day, pancakes and waffles. A little word of warning though, breakfast time gets very busy and at the weekend you can expect to have to wait 10-15mins before getting a seat.

Overall we had a lovely relaxing stay, the hotel does have a spa but we didn’t make use of it (a good excuse to go back me thinks!!) The staff also deserve a mention for being so pleasant and friendly to deal with.

It can be pretty pricey to stay but I have seen a number of really good special offers so keep an eye out
